The Pittsburgh Steelers and steroids…Which is the connection?

When it is said that the Pittsburgh Steelers intend to play, sportswriters seem to have responsibility to write about their links with steroids. They put efforts to create a steroid scandal and to define any probable connections of this team with it.
Mike Fish of ESPN displayed the same attitude, when this team competed in the 2009 Super Bowl.  This reporter turned to be successful in writing news connected with this team and steroids.
Although sportswriters are not always lucky, when it comes to allegations of a team or a person with performance-enhancing drugs before a competition, the situation is changed, if it is said about the Steelers. Sportswriters prefer writing about their history, about the lesson linked with anabolic steroids that took place in 1970s.
David Fleming wrote about historical lessons of the Steelers before a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers. This person noted about time, when the NFL hadn’t yet banned intake of steroids. So, according to some sources, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ players administrated steroids in the late 1970s. It is noted in the 1991 book “False Glory: The Steve Courson Story” that over 70 % of the offensive linemen of the Pittsburgh Steelers  applied steroids.
It must have been true but you must understand that intake of steroids wasn’t forbidden. Why are the Pittsburgh Steelers condemned, if intake of steroids was permitted?
Jim Haslett told the New Orleans Saints that the Pittsburgh Steelers had won a lot if times in 1970s and in 1980s due to steroids. According to this coach, the football players of the team became much stronger due to steroids.
But it is important to be careful here. The Steelers were not the first football team that applied steroids and other drugs that have performance-enhancing effects. There were other professional football teams that used steroids even in well-organized way.
Matt Chaneygave the better explanation linked with steroid use by football players. He mentioned in his book “The Spiral of Denial: Muscle Doping in American football” that the Steelers were not responsible for the steroid revolution in football. There was another team which was responsible for this aspect. The San Diego Charges applied steroids before the Steelers in 1960s.  
Although the Pittsburgh Steelers applied steroids in 1970s, it is impossible to claim that they won due to steroids. There were also players of other teams that administrated these products as well. Nonetheless, the Pittsburgh Steelers were successful!
