Why should be hematocrit levels maintained at normal range?

The boxer Tony Thompson states that anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs should be permitted in boxing. The sportsman claims that anti-doping laws and gun laws are similar. Who keeps gun laws? Only good guys do it. That’s why good guys are at a disadvantage. Thus, the similar situation is linked with anti-doping laws. Just honest athletes don’t apply steroids and/or other performance-enhancing drugs. So, they fight with those that have enhanced their performance with the help of anabolic steroids and other related drugs.
It is argued that anabolic steroids are not allowed in sports because they are dangerous. What would you believe about boxing in itself? Isn’t boxing dangerous? The answer is obvious.
But it is also stated that it is needed to ban anabolic steroids and other related medications in order to make boxing safer. Anabolic steroids and other doping products increase performance. The more enhanced performance is, the more dangerous rounds are. Although it is true, would you ban anything which promotes performance of boxers? Thus, you ban steroids because they enhance performance. Then ban trainings as well since they enhance performance too! So, you will decrease performance while minimizing possible risks. What do you think about this aspect?
The boxer Tony Thompson also adds that detection tests are not efficient at all. While a lot of sportspersons use banned medications, only some of them are caught and sentenced to suspensions. So, dopers have unfair advantage over those that don’t break anti-doping rules. Where is fairness? Where is logic?
Of course, arguments provided by Tony Thompson are reasonable. Anti-doping rules make fights more unfair. Furthermore, the ban of doping doesn’t make rounds safer. Many boxers continue to use steroids and/or other banned substances without being caught. They continue to fight and succeed with the help of doping, while good guys are at a disadvantage because they don’t break anti-doping rules.
Thus, if doping is permitted in boxing, fights will be more honest. Of course, they will remain unsafe. But they will be at least fair.
The boxer Tony Thompson has been harshly criticized for his arguments pro legalization of doping in boxing.
