Skip Bayless, a journalist of the channel ESPN2, accuses Derek Jeter, a baseball player, of steroid use. He has expressed his thoughts of criticism during the talk show “First take”.
Actually, the sports journalist doesn’t have any basis in order to suggest that Derek Jeter uses forbidden medications. Despites this fact, the statements of the ESPN2 journalist have been spread. Before accusing Derek Jeter of steroid use, the journalist started to criticize anti-doping program of the MLB. He claimed that the MLB’s tests for banned preparations are not good enough to catch those who administer forbidden medicines.
Skip Bayless reminded Victor Conte’s opinion related to testosterone:epitestosterone ratio test that is utilized in the MLB. This method is not good enough to detect those that use banned drugs. Instead of this method, it is needed to utilize another. Carbon isotope ratio is more appropriate.
The ESPN2 journalist also noticed that the MLB didn’t have any testing for HGH. The test for this drug is performed in the MLB just once per year. But blood tests for this drug should be performed more times throughout year. Under other circumstances, players may take this drug and remain undetectable.
So, Skip Bayless supposes that Derek Jeter administers HGH and prohibited drugs. The sports journalist also notes that if he were a baseball player, he would apply HGH.
Thus, the sports journalist suggests that MLB players take HGH and probably other forbidden medicines without being caught by anti-doping officers.
It is quite obvious that the steroid era in baseball has not ended. Professional baseball players use various forbidden preparations and avoid detection. But nobody can accuse an athlete of doping, basing just on improper drug testing. It is important to focus on facts, accusing an athlete of usage of forbidden drugs. Under other circumstances, any suspicion doesn’t have any value.
