Which anabolic steroid was taken by Nadzeya Ostapchuk?

Nadzeya Ostapchuk, a Belarusian shot putter, won the 2012 Olympic gold medal. But the athlete forfeited the award because she was caught using the anabolic steroid metenolone (methenolone). She was asked to provide two samples. The substance metenolone presented in both urine samples.
If you read news related to steroid use in sports, you must know that professional athletes and bodybuilders are usually caught applying other steroids and/or doping products. But as for Nadzeya Ostapchuk, she was caught using metenolone. It is strange, according to statements of anti-doping officers. What does this forbidden product represent? Why don’t athletes usually take this product for increase of performance?
Metenolone belongs to anabolic steroids. It has slight androgenic features. It acts like testosterone, enhancing muscle mass and adding energy.
Although this product has just weak androgenic nature, it leads to development of sex male characteristics in females. Women who use this remedy may face typical effects of masculinization: the voice becomes deeper; excessive hair grows on the face and on other parts of the body; etc.
This product may be used orally or through injections.
Metenolone (Methenolone) causes amazing effects, when it is administered by sportspersons during their trainings. It is not administered during competitions. It doesn’t work, if it is administered just on the day of a competition.
It is also stated that it is easy to detect those that apply this steroid.
Negative results of Metenolone (Methenolone) depend on quantities which are used. They include fluid retention, hypercalcaemia, bone growth, hirsutism, acne formation, male-pattern baldness, menstrual irregularities, enhanced libido, etc.
Thus, when you see a female athlete that has deep voice and hirsutism, you may suspect her of steroid use. In fact, it is wrong because these problems may appear also in those females that don’t apply any steroids. But sometimes these effects demonstrate that certain female athletes take medications that have androgenic nature.
