The former player of the Major League Baseball Jose Canseco didn’t agree to submit to a urine analysis for steroids, when he tried to return to the Mexican Baseball League. It was earlier confirmed that the “Tigres de Quintana” of Cancun provided him the second chance and invited him to join to the team.
This baseball player refused to submit to analysis for steroids which had to be conducted by officers of the Mexico’s National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE). CONADE represents government agency that controls Olympic sports in Mexico.
The CEO of the “Tigres de Quintana” Cuauhtemoc Rodriguez Meza confirmed that Jose Canseco would not be permitted to play for the team because he had acknowledged that he used banned medications.
Jose Canseco acknowledged that he was on testosterone replacement therapy under supervision of a doctor in the US. He mentioned that he was receiving TRT since 2008. This player was not surprised by the requirement to submit to urine analysis for steroids. This sportsman wrote on his Twitter account last month that the Minor League Baseball would have testing for banned medications.
As it is known, any athlete may use steroids for TRT and compete, if he/she has acquired a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). A TUE allows application of forbidden substances, if it is supported by medical needs.
It is obvious that Jose Canseco has prescription from his health care provider that supports his condition which requires being TRT. But Jose Canseco hasn’t obtained a TUE for usage of testosterone.
Canseco has publicly admitted that he had a prescription from his health care provider to utilize testosterone as a part of testosterone replacement therapy. He described about this factor in a documentary in 2008. Jose Canseco confirmed that he discontinued utilizing illegal steroids and had hypogonadism that was caused by steroids. Then his physician prescribed him administering a testosterone gel to escape from side consequences of steroids.
You see that Jose Canseco’s application of steroids is justified because he has medical support for administration. But since he doesn’t have any TUE, it is not clear whether he would join the team that has steroid testing.
The CEO of “Tigres de Quintana” claimed that he had known that Jose Canseco was on TRT but he invited him to play, just obtaining a TUE.
